Counterbores are the end cutting tool for forming a flat bottomed enlargement of the mouth of a previously formed cylindrical hole. Porting tools are the tools for NC and CNC porting applications, to help contour ports in various metals, composites and hard-to-machine materials.
The tip of the counterbore has a reduced diameter section referred to as the pilot, a feature essential to assuring concentricity between the counterbore and the hole being counterbored.
Counterbores are rotary cutting tools with a pilot tip to guide cutting lips into hole. Interchangeable Pilot Counterbores are used with interchangeable pilots ground to fit various hole sizes to be counterbored.
